News: New E10 Petrol Introduced to UK Drivers
Here at Essex Car Company we are committed to bringing you news on the latest changes and trends on the UK roads. Here on TheHub is where you’ll find our articles and breaking news stories from across the UK.
A big story that has come out of 2021 is the Government announcing the change to the standard (95 octane) petrol grade in Britain. This will only affect petrol cars, diesel cars remain unaffected from these changes.
What is good news for most drivers is that your vehicle is most likely compatible with the new E10 petrol. In fact, according to the GOV.uk website, 95% of petrol powered vehicles on the road today will be able to use the E10 petrol and any car built from 2011 onwards will be compatible.
For those who find that their car isn’t compatible with the new E10 petrol, maybe it is time for a change… here at Essex Car Company we are sure that amongst our 200 plus cars we have a car for you to choose from.
If you do need to check if your vehicle is compatible or not, the GOV.uk website have created a vehicle checker that you can find just here.
What is E10 petrol?
The newest E10 petrol contains up to 10% renewable ethanol and this introduction should help to reduce carbon dioxide emissions that many petrol vehicles produces and therefore helping in our countries bid to fight against climate change – which is a hot topic at the moment across the world. Many countries worldwide already use the E10 petrol and for five years now it has been the fuel used to test new cars when looking at emissions and performance.
Carbon dioxide is what is called a ‘greenhouse gas’ that affects climate change and E10 benefits this as it works to minimise the levels of carbon dioxide based emissions from your vehicle.
E10 petrol is made up of normal petrol and up to 10% renewable ethanol. Introducing the E10 petrol it is hoped will help cut transport based emissions of carbon dioxide by 750,000 tonnes a year – which the GOV.uk site say is the same as taking 350,000 cars coming off the road.
Is E10 economical?
There’s not much change in the miles per gallon you get from E10 compared to the previous standard fuel. It is reported that E10 petrol can slightly reduce fuel economy by around 1%, so it is barely noticeable.
What happens with E10 in ULEZ zones like in London?
Using E10 petrol doesn’t affect your ability to drive in or have to pay to enter any low emission/ultra-low emission zones – the factors for this are determined by the Euro emissions standard on your car and not by the fuel you use.
If you’re looking for a car you know you’ll be able to use the new E10 petrol in to replace your current vehicle then you know that within our 200 plus vehicles, the Essex Car Company will be able to help you get the wheels rolling on a new car.
